Garden Center Tour Fun!

The 6th Annual Garden Center tour was held on Wednesday, May 22nd and was another fun, shopping and interesting adventure. The Target parking lot started out a little bit rainy, but it cleared up by the time we arrived at our first stop in River Falls. We visited 5 Garden Centers that day and each had their own unique features. If you get the time and are in the area of any one of the following garden centers, please stop in to visit.

Sisters Garden Center, N6531 1250th St, River Falls, WI 54022

Owned and operated by Julie Jaques (her father operated the Jacque Seed Co. here) she named her garden center in honor of her sisters. She has beautiful plants and lots of different and very healthy annuals, a few perennials and some good vegetables. She knows how to plant pots and gave an excellent demonstration on what plants to put together and how to take careof pots.

Cedar Hill Farm and Greenhouse, 10004 WI-29 River Falls, WI 54022

Maybe a mile down the road is Cedar Hill Farm, a few greenhouses full of unusual perennials and annuals. Very good stock and very well taken care of. I thought the hanging baskets were beautiful as well. I bought a fern delphenium!

Garden Divas, N7789 WI-65 River Falls, WI 54022

Garden Divas is outside River Falls and has metal work, art work for your garden and has a old building where you can shop for household garedn items and indoor and unusual items and items from around the world. It is a women owned business. The owner was delightful. Fun shop!

Squire House Gardens, 3390 St Croix S, Afton MN 55001

Martin Stern who spoke at our garden club meeting in April owns SHG's. It has lovely plants of all types: great stock and different types. His house that is on site has a beautiful gift shop with lovely local artwork, garden items, books, jewelry, clothing and more. His gorgeous amazing backyard is on the northside of the shop and is truly something to admire. Please stop in more than once during the year. The windy drive to Afton is beautiful and worth the trip alone.

Blacks Greenhouse – 15743 Hudson Rd, Hudson, MN

Our last stop was at Black's Greenhouse in Hudson, MN

but really in MN. I never knew there was a greenhouse right off of I94, just before you go over the St Croix River on the south side. It is truly worth your time. An entire greenhouse devoted to tomatoes! And other vegetables. Lots of annuals and baskets, perennials and unusuals metal work. I purchased $4.99 started perennials; that was a great deal!

Thank you to the members who went on the trip and made it so fun. We stopped at 1 pm or lunch at the Afton House Inn for lunch. See you next year!
