Each May, the week right before Memorial Day, LAGC members converge on Aronson Park with spades, rakes, shovels, hoes, and weed diggers for our annual Community Service event. Within just a few hours, the Memorial Gardens are planted with hundreds of red petunias, blue salvia, and white Dusty Millers. The three raised mounds surrounding the Memorial Garden are weeded, bushes are pruned, new plants are added to the shadier mound, and sun loving plants are added to the sunnier mounds. This past year, the city of Lakeville graciously provided three huge mounds of brown mulch and all three mounds are freshened up beautifully.
It is with pride that we add our memorial plaque for longtime, departed member Joyce Vessel. LAGC Members will continue to maintain these gardens throughout the summer as a service to our community. Thanks to the many hands that annually restore these gardens, making them into a beautiful showcase for our club!
