February Meeting - Forget about the Lottery, Enter your Plants at the Fair!Yes, forget about the lottery! You can enter your beautiful annuals, perennials, house plants vegetables, flower arrangements, hanging baskets and containers in the Dakota County Fair and in the Mn State Fair and win BIG BIG Prize Money!
That is my lead in to encourage our members to enter their horticulture exhibits into both the Dakota County Fair and the Mn State Fair this year.
I passed out various seeds at our February meeting and went over the Winter Seed Starting method. Did you try out the method? How did your seeds turn out? I did marigolds and they did good! It is a fun easy way to try seeds and get more plants for your gardens.
I am encouraging members to enter the Dakota County Fair which is held August 4th thru the 11th. Entry day is Sunday, August 4thfrom 10:00 am to 8:00 pm and for most items and again Thursday, August 8th for Roses, Glads, Dahlias, Arragements and Garden Club. You can enter both. Premiums range from $6.00 for a blue to $12.00 for Champion. The Fair is held at the Fairgrounds in Farmington.
I am the Horticulture Supt and also am looking for workers during the fair. The work pays $10.00/hour and you can free parking and entry. I can hire youth over 16.
The Mn State Fair is August 22nd thru Sept 2nd and I would like to encourage our Club to enter the Open Class. We could carpool to the State Fair, enter our exhibits and then enjoy the Fair all day while our exhibits our judged.
I will send out an email asking who is interested in the State Fair Exhibiting.
