On a delightful Minnesota summer evening, 22 members of the Lakeville Area Garden club toured two beautiful gardens at Carleton College in Northfield.
Led by Arboreum Director, Nancy Braker, members toured a section of the 80 acre Cowling Arboretum. Members learned about the history of the land, how the arboretum was developed and is maintained, and learned about many native plants being reintroduced in their prairie and woodlands restoration projects. Next, members walked a short block to the Jo-Ryo-En Japanese Garden. While enjoying the garden, members learned about the garden's history and maintenance from Margit Johnson, volunteer coordinator. The evening wrapped up with scrumptious cupcakes from Cake Walk bakery in Northfield. It was a wonderful time together!
