Lakeville’s Veterans Memorial Park Blooms in Red, White, and Blue in Honor of our Veterans

Each spring, just prior to Memorial Day, hundreds of red petunias, white dusty millers, and blue salvia are planted in raised beds and planters surrounding the F-86 Sabre jet at Lakeville’s Veterans Memorial Park. In addition, several raised berms beautify the area surrounding the memorial. Bachman’s provided the original design and plant recommendations, selecting a variety of flowers and shrubs that would showcase plants Lakeville residents might want to have in their yards and gardens. Several community members and local businesses donated to the planting in these berms and their names can be seen on the placards in each berm. The memorial was officially dedicated on Veteran’s Day, November 11, 2006.

Funding for the flowers is solely provided through donations from community members and organizations. At one time, a Daisy Girl Scout Troop contributed a portion from their cookie raising fundraiser! Over the years, long-term funding partners have been Lakeville residents Kevin and Rhonda Miller, Greg Eisele from Eisele’s Greenhouse, and the Lakeville Area Garden Club (LAGC). Each May, as a service to the community, Mr. Miller orders and delivers the flowers from Eisele’s Greenhouse and helps to guide the members of LAGC with the planting of the beautiful red, white and blue flowers.

The next time you are at Aronson Park, be sure to visit Lakeville’s beautiful Veteran’s Memorial Park and take a moment to honor our Veterans!
